Test guide
Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea (CT/NG) Detection
Nucleic acid detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
What it is for
Diagnoses often-asymptomatic sexually transmitted infections, supports treatment of patients and partners, and is used in prenatal screening and STI clinic algorithms. NAAT is the recommended first-line method.
Limitations
Positive results after treatment may reflect nonviable DNA for up to several weeks, so test-of-cure timing matters. NAAT is not FDA-cleared for oropharyngeal or rectal sites in all jurisdictions despite common use.
Before you test
For individuals: urine or a self-taken swab may be options. If the result is positive, partners need testing and treatment; ask about expedited partner therapy where available.
